DISASTER HIT KSD FAMILIES RECEIVE NEW HOUSES FROM HUMAN SETTLEMENTS PROJECT

The dignity of disaster hit families will be restored when MEC for Human Settlements, Honourable Siphokazi Lusithi, officially hands over a newly completed house to an elderly woman in Mqanduli under the King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Local Municipality on Friday, 25 August 2023.

The house forms part of a running project which is an intervention to a disaster and will benefit 362 families in the King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality. The KSD 362 Destitute Project currently has 299 completed houses helping many families rebuild their lives.

Mama Ntonga Notshu who is 84 years old is one of the beneficiaries of the project. She is currently staying in a dilapidated mud structure with her family and dependent on the social grant.

The Department responds to disasters through its Emergency Housing Programme that aims to assist disaster hit communities.

The handover precedes the Premier’s Imbizo to be held on Saturday, 26 August 2023 in the OR Tambo District Municipality.
